A Kid-Friendly Bathroom And Laundry Makeover: Smart Tile Choices For Everyday Enjoyment

From playful penny rounds to vibrant glass subway tiles—this renovation blends fun, function, and family.

When this Walnut Creek home was purchased, it had great bones—but a few well-placed updates were needed to make daily routines smoother and more enjoyable, especially for the younger ones in the household. We focused on two everyday spaces with untapped potential for fun: the kids’ bathroom and the laundry area.

In the kids’ bathroom, the vibe leans cheerful and clean. We used honeydew subway tiles as the backdrop for the shower—sleek, smooth, and easy to wipe down—paired with dove gray oversized hexagon tiles that offer geometric interest without feeling too busy. Inside the shower niche? A subtle white mini-hex tile, echoing the shapes used throughout while giving it a touch of personality.

It’s a bright, modern mix that adds just the right dose of cheer—durable enough to grow with the kids and easy to maintain, too.

The laundry room now features two standout choices: a bold charcoal herringbone pattern and classic dove penny round mosaic tiles. The herringbone brings a touch of grown-up sophistication, while the penny rounds add a playful, pebble-like texture—together creating a space that feels both elevated and approachable.

Design like this isn’t just about aesthetics—it’s about making everyday spaces feel better to be in. When a laundry room feels more inviting, even the chores start to feel a little easier.

And yes—this was intentional. Because why not make laundry day more enjoyable, especially when you’re starting those life skills early?
